Preposition of place activity

The words such as in, on, under, up, top, behind etc. are used to locate the position of a hidden child in the class through a game of Little Boy/ Girl And Little Cat.

There are two players in the game. One child is the little boy/girl and another child is the little cat. The child who is the little boy is asked: “Where is the little cat hiding?” He locates the little cat and answers the question by using in, on, top, under, behind etc. For example “The little cat is under the desk.”

The entire class participates in the game turn by turn.

 

Where is the boy hiding?

He is hiding behind the cupboard.

Where is she hiding?

She is hiding behind the book shelf.

Where is she hiding?

She is hiding under the desk.

Where is the boy?

He is sitting on the table.

He is sitting under the table

She is behind the cupboard

Countdown begins

The Friendly Bee

Once there lived a bee and a butterfly in a garden full of colourful flowers. Children came to play in the garden every day. They loved to watch the beautiful butterfly flutter over them. But they did not like the bee. They always screamed and ran away every time the bee buzzed near them.

 

The bee was very hurt and said to the butterfly “Why do the children don’t like me? Why do they fear me? I have done nothing to scare them away.”

“You simply are not gorgeous like me. No one would look at you or come near you!” replied the butterfly.

“You are very rude. I will make the children love me no matter how I look!” said the bee.

 

So the bee set his mind to do what he knew best. He made honey for the children. The next day the children came to the garden with a picnic basket. They sat and ate buns happily. They left the empty plates on the ground and went to play.  The bee poured the honey secretly on their empty plates.  Suddenly, a little girl came running and saw the bee. “Come here quickly!” she called to the other children. The children came and saw their plates full of sweet honey. They looked at it greedily. “The bee had made it for us! Let us try it with some biscuits. It would taste delicious!” said the little girl. The children ate hungrily and thanked the bee. From then on the children and the bee became friends forever.

Tartary

Critical Analysis
“Tartay” is a poem written by Walter De La Mare. In this poem the poet imagines
himself to be the master of that glorious wonderland called Tartary. He tries to satisfy
his unfulfilled desires in a real life by dreaming. The poem is a journey into the realm of
imagination. The land of Tartary has been painted as a very far-off, charming and ideal
place. It is a beautiful, rich and fertile land full of unseen and unheard of delights. Like
a mighty king the poet wishes to have an ivory bed and golden throne. His court will be
decorated with beautiful creatures like peacocks. His forests will be full of tigers and his
pools will abound with big fishes. He would rule over men and animals alike. As lord of
Tartary he would enjoy great pomp and show in his every day life. The musicians would
play beautiful music in the courtyard of his palace. The bugle call will announce that the
royal meal is ready. In the evening his palace will be illuminated with lamps "yellow
as honey" and "red as wine". The poet also longs to wear gorgeous dress, decorated
with jewels of white, gold and green colors. Early in the morning he would dress up in
royal robes and ride his carriage drawn by seven zebras. The poet also wishes to enjoy
abundantly growing fruits in the land of Tartary. The silver pale rivers, hills, valleys,
woods, twinkling stars, clear lakes, foamless seas and scented breeze add charm and
magic to his state. Such heavenly place will transport his soul and mind to the domain of
happiness. The poem is marked with its romantic and imaginative images and adjectives.
Although our rational mind knows that such a place does not exist yet we allow ourselves
to be allured for the time being.
All the beautiful natural images painted by the poet shows the poets deep love of nature.
There is no ambiguity in the poem and the diction is simple. The whole poem is
rhythmic. The theme of escaping to an imaginary world is approachable to every sort of
reader. The poet’s dreamland of joy is perfect in every way. Colored words have been
used as bed of ivory, golden throne etc. Similes have been used as yellow as honey and
red as wine to emphasize the longing for these things in real life. Everything occurs in a
natural way.
The poem succeeds in taking the reader to a world of imagination and the theme of
escapism in the poem can be easily identified with.
